With our busy society phone interviews are becoming more and more common and popular, here are 6 tips to help you nail your next phone interview!
- Prepare
Now this seems rather obvious but treat a phone interview like a face to face interview and prepare, know who the company is and what they do and also know what position you have applied for.
- Schedule the Phone Interview
Most recruiters will arrange a time for a phone interview with you and this is perfect, if you do get a call out of the blue and you aren’t prepared or if it is a bad time then let the recruiter know, nicely of course
- Ask Questions
The conversation shouldn’t be one sided so remember to ask any questions that you have, also it is a good idea to have a couple of questions prepared to ask, this shows the recruiter that you are keen on the role.
- Be Serious
Yes it is a Phone Interview but the person on the other end of the phone deserves the same amount of respect as you would give to someone in a face to face interview so turn down the television or radio and give the interviewer your full attention because they will be able to tell if you don’t.
- Take Notes
I believe it is important to take notes on a phone interview as you will receive valuable information about the company, the role and the recruitment process going forward. Your notes don’t need to be an essay but just some dot points to help you remember, these notes are also a fantastic way to prepare for your face to face interview.
- Follow up
Whether you have just finished a Phone Interview or a Face to Face Interview it is always nice to follow up with an email thanking the interviewer for their time and their consideration, not only is this polite but it makes you stand out because you will stay in their mind for a good reason.
Hopefully these 6 easy steps will help you nail your next phone interview and get you that face to face interview where you can continue to impress.
