Hi, I’m Emily.
I’m the founder of HR Gurus.
Before starting the business, I spent 13 years selling my soul in corporate HR at organisations including The Royal Bank of Scotland, GM Holden, Wesfarmers, Coles and HOSTPLUS.
Corporate HR gave me incredible experience. It also taught me exactly what I didn’t want HR to be.
Boring. Risk-obsessed. Full of corporate spin and jargon. And far too often disconnected from the reality of actually running a business.
I could see that SMEs needed proper HR expertise too, they just didn’t necessarily need, or want, a full-time HR person sitting on the payroll.
So in 2010, I backed myself, took a leap and started HR Gurus.
The goal was simple:
Give growing businesses access to seriously good HR, without the fluff.
Practical advice. Commercial thinking. Human conversations. And instead of immediately telling clients “no”, finding the smartest, safest way to get them where they want to go.
That’s actually my superpower. Finding a way to help clients get what they need and want.
Sixteen years later, I still love this industry, but for me I’m now focused on the strategic running of my business and I have built a team (including my partner in crime Jessy Warn) to deliver what other HR consulting firms can’t. HR advice that makes sense and gets outcomes. That’s our sweet spot.
These days you’ll also find me on stage. I’m a keynote speaker, helping leaders and business owners cut through the BS on people, leadership and growing a business. I’ve spoken for Franchise Council Australia, the Tasmanian Manufacturing Association, Schnitz, QuickCopy (Pack & Send) and the Guttervac Conference.
